Match result from Cheltenham

The GC Level play team took on Cheltenham today and were defeated 16-4. Hardly a surprise, since Dyffryn total handicaps were 11 and Cheltenham's 5 players were a total of 3 (-1, 0, 1, 1 & 1) Still nice to play on excellent surfaces.

Welsh Championship result

Ian Burridge won his 13th Welsh title over the weekend, defeating Chris Williams +20, +17tp in the best of three final. Third place was taken by John Evans who defeated fellow Dyffryn member Garry McElwain 26-24. The Plate event was won by another Dyffryn member Sarah Melvin, beating her three opponents on Sunday to maintain her 100% Plate record.

Lawns free on Saturday 1st July

The scheduled match on this coming Saturday, 1st July, against East Dorset has been postponed as the opposition cannot raise a team. This means the lawns are free to use for members that day. Enjoy the games you arrange!

Welsh Championship

This weekend from Friday, sees the Welsh Championships played at Dyffryn. There are 5 home members taking part Chris W, John E, Garry Mc, Sarah Mc and Kevin H. Good luck to all of you! The weather looks cooler and good for the three day event.

Match news

The Intermediate team won their first match on Sunday, away at Swindon, by 3-2. On Thursday last, the Golf Handicap team lost to Broadwas 8.5 - 11.5 in a close game. Jim Beach and Mary Huntley made their debuts for the team in the match. Well done!

Kevin wins the chairmans.

On a day that was warm bright and sunny, Kevin Ham whom the Chairmans bowl wining four of his five games. Julian had a better score but he only played three games and so was not eligible to win the trophy. There were only three players to start, but the numbers increased during the day and ten eventually played My thanks to Jay for assisting with the conversion of lawn one to half lawns.

Weekend results

The Federation team played at Cheltenham and lost 3-2 in a close match. The GC Level team visited Beckford for the first time and came away with a strong 15-5 win. Wales finished 3rd in a truncated Home Internationals competition due to poor weather. A semi-final defeat by England, saw Wales take on Scotland. A win allowed the team finish above Scotland. England defeated Ireland to retain the title.

Home Internationals

This coming weekend sees Wales play in the Home International series. The home nations meet at Southport. Teams of 5 players play their opposite number in a best of three match. Dyffryn members involved are Chris Williams, Garry McElwain and John Evans. Good luck to all!

Inter Counties Championship Success

As reported yesterday, it has been confirmed that Glamorgan have won the second division and will play in the first division of the county championship next season. They were awarded the Inter Counties Shield. The Channel Islands won the same number of games - 8 from 10 - but were placed second on a countback of games won during the event. Congratulations to all the players involved!
